Goldbrick: Ringing The New Year In By Nuking Tires Off In A Chrysler Cordoba

Goldbrick: Ringing The New Year In By Nuking Tires Off In A Chrysler Cordoba

How quickly were you ready to put last year into the rear view mirror? Well…let’s just say this: If we weren’t already in the middle of one gigantic headache over the last few months, I would suggest drinking the memory out of your head. Even though nothing has changed yet…the virus is still around, the political spectrum is as welcoming as a thorn-apple milkshake, and there is still a pervasive air of “them vs. us” everywhere you go…everybody can agree that 2020 is a memory best buried before it begins to stink any more than it already has. So what better way to deal with months of “flattening the curve”, political venom and general unrest? Well, if you happen to be a foul-mouthed Western Canadian that goes by the nom de plume of Zip Ties and Bias Plies, you convince the better part of YouTube’s motoring folk to go haze the tires off as a kind of smudging ceremony to bring good luck into 2021.

I’ve driven the car you are about to see. I want the car you are about to see. And I highly, highly doubt that Dylan McCool will ever sell this car unless he finds some barn-find wing car that is just a tick below his budget and ready for the picking. But that’s alright…he let me do a hard launch with this thing when we were both at Ratty Muscle Cars’ “Mopar vs. Brand X” race a couple months back and the big Cordoba can dance. It sounds mean (well, it did before McCool popped the header gasket on his first pass that afternoon), it’s pretty clean, and it’s complete. Ignore the swapped-in ratchet shifter and you’d think somebody found a survivor. Even the key buzzer is alive in this car, my cue that this Chrysler was loved. Well…there’s that. And there’s the 400ci big-block that is rocking a bit harder than the late 1970s would’ve allowed. Would Ricardo approve? Would grandma approve? No. But if a tire sacrifice is needed to get a positive outlook going for 2021, bring it on!
