Ebay Find: We’d Take This 1968 Volvo 122 Trar Over Any Subaru

Ebay Find: We’d Take This 1968 Volvo 122 Trar Over Any Subaru

Subaru might have the all-wheel-drive station wagon market pretty much cornered anymore, but unless you’ve got a hot Impreza WRX/STi wagon we don’t understand the desire for them. They aren’t powerful, they aren’t the end-all-be-all when it comes to off-roading, and frankly, there’s better options. One of which just hit eBay: this 1968 Volvo 122S trar.

Maybe it’s just me, but this Volvo makes me think of a Swedish-designed Travelall at some angles. I know that it’s a smaller car, but it looks like a nice, useable four-door SUV at the right angles. The craftsmanship and thought that was put into the creation of this trar is pretty spot-on, and the overall look couldn’t be beaten. This Volvo has more character than any Outback wagon, and we wouldn’t miss the creature comforts one bit. We like it…what do you think?

The original registration number was KILL ME!

    Says it all really……

    That’s actually really well done.
’84 chassis: still has a live axle up front, 3/4 boxed frame, G54 transmission with RF1A t-case, 4.11 diffs. 22R makes good torque, passes smog with little effort and will last a lifetime. Combine that with all the space that the Volvo body has to offer and the cool safari look of it all.
    I’d rock it.

It needs some helper leaves in the rear to deal with the added weight, I’d drop in a Detroit locker in the front and a limited slip in the rear and up the gear ratios to 4.56 to help move the heavier body around. Maybe some soundproofing and an OAP AC system. It would be a great go-anywhere-do-anything car.

Shoot, I just reread it and realized I’d overlooked the fact that it’s still titled as a ’68 Volv. In that case, pay LC Engineering a visit for their stage three long block with a Weber 38. That should give it a nice, cushy 150-160 HP, almost doubling the stock 96.

Well done ? Hell mooseface . Its more like Death Trap 2015 and an accident waiting to happen . Combining a Volvo 122 … and a Toyota pick up with a wretchedly high center of gravity ?

Look’s more like one majorly bad idea and mistake from every aspect in my book .. not to mention its fugly as hell !!!! And those wheels ! I mean really ! THOSE wheels ? In the 21st century ? The only thing worse aesthetically being the joke trying to pass as an interior

        And err … Bryan ?

Trust me son ,,, once you’d test driven this pile …. no you wouldn’t … take it over ANY Subaru that is . And I do mean …. ANY Subaru ! Hell a Justy’d be more satisfying to own than this pos .

High center of gravity? From the loudmouth clown who drives a Chrysler Pacifica with delusions of Mercedesdom?

My Toyota and its “wretchedly high center of gravity” has never been over, once, because I’m not some hotheaded leadfoot who thinks he’s a rally driver; the same habit could be said of 99% of us Toyota enthusiasts.

What’s wrong with those wheels? I have them on my truck. They’re stock FJ60 wagon wheels, and they look great on old iron. What do you want, 22″ chromed garbage with spinners?
