This car looks familiar to me. During one of my two jaunts in a hot and sandy place, I got to drive a Chevrolet Caprice that we most certainly did not see in the States at the time. Big, roomy, and accelerating like a late-model GTO, I was instantly smitten with them. If you’ve got the money and hunt down some police auctions, you could even bring a version of one to your house: the Chevrolet Caprice PPV is the same platform as the car you’ll see, just stripped down for heavy-duty cop use. In Australia, the base model is the Holden Caprice, but Holden’s hoon division, HSV, tweaks and tunes the big barge into the HSV Grange. Hot from the factory with LS power, two turbochargers and some chassis tweaking can make what should have been the proper Aussie middle finger to Audis into a true Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde ride: quiet and semi-sensible at one moment, but when the boost comes on, pray you aren’t in the crosshairs.
