230 MPH With The Aero Of A Brick Wall: Meet The Land Speed Cruiser!

230 MPH With The Aero Of A Brick Wall: Meet The Land Speed Cruiser!

Toyota’s Land Cruiser is in a strange place. Rumors are floating around that the 66-year-old nameplate could soon be sent to the bin since it costs as much as a Range Rover, weighs as much as an oil tanker, and has seemingly forgotten it’s origins as Toyota’s badass, all-conquering answer to the Jeep. So what do you do to drum up interest in the nameplate? Why not make the gigantic box hit 230 MPH?

We might be questioning the wisdom at the marketing strategy, but we are completely on board with making a three-ton sports-utility vehicle blast through the air with all the subtlety of a MOAB. We didn’t pay much attention to the Land Speed Cruiser because…well, lots of pretty, shiny things. We might have been distracted by a really cool NASCAR tribute Mercury Comet. But it was sitting there in the corner, with it’s twin-turbocharged 5.7L 3UZ-FE Toyota mill, quiet and unassuming. And now it’s making headlines, because it wasn’t just a spoof build. With the boost cranked and somewhere near 2,000 horsepower running free, the Cruiser has been busy pushing around tons of wind with it’s massive bulk.

We’re impressed, Toyota. Now, if you can get that trick Funny Car-style Camry to a dragstrip…

    Incredible speed.

And about as exciting as a minivan. When will this SUV crap die a death already? Even station wagons didn’t suck this bad!

Is it still a production SUV if you hack the frame, body, suspension, and add twin turbochargers?
Sounds like Blown Altered C motor to me.
