CHADMOUTH: SACRILEGE!!!!! BE GONE EVIL CAMARO STATION WAGON SPIRITS!!!!

CHADMOUTH: SACRILEGE!!!!! BE GONE EVIL CAMARO STATION WAGON SPIRITS!!!!

Holy crap it sucks to be me. See, I’m the resident Camaro guy…AND the resident Wagon guy. So in my heart I want to like the idea of a ’69 Camaro Station Wagon. But I can’t. Not like this. It’s clearly Chevelle meets Camaro on this one, and their are just too many things not working for it.

The most glaring of which is the windows. The door glass and weird little “quarter windows” just don’t work. And just like on the Chevelle that the roof and glass are coming from, the Camaro wagon rear side glass is not shaped correctly to meet up with the windows on the doors. It’s all kinds of wrong. I can live with the windows being a little wonky on the Chevelle because they came that way. But if you are going to spend thousands of hours and umpteen jillion dollars to build a one off ’69 Camaro Station Wagon, then make all the stuff work together.

And what’s with the large sized Chevelle SS wheels on this thing? Did we need another reminder that it’s alot like a Chevelle wagon but with Camaro skin?  I mean maybe it is a Camaro that they grafted Chevelle Wagon parts onto the back of. The wheelbase appears to be at or near the correct 108 inch length that was found on the Camaro, rather than the 116 inch wheelbase found on a Chevelle Wagon. Certainly a Chevelle chassis can be trimmed down so who know for sure which route they took.

I don’t know, but it certainly isn’t working for me at this point.

Maybe it will grow on me. Maybe not, after all it’s been tried before, LIKE THE ONE PICTURED BELOW,  and sucked each of those times, even when Chevrolet tried it. At this point I have to stop writing so I can get a drink and wash the little bit of puke out of my throat.

What is with these people?!! Trars, Camaro station wagons, half-scale 63 Impalas, Grand Ams cross bred with ’50’s International pickups. Stop the insanity!

  2. Remy-Z

Can’t get behind it either. The rear doors and the quarter glass kill it. Since the Camaro is so small, why not do a suicide “3rd door” like a Saturn Coupe? I’m certain that’d look at least better than the above attempt and wouldn’t need the huge doors in back.

Please tell me the red one in this post is Photoshop.

Although if they’d kept it 2 door, and made the front doors about 8″ longer, it might look better than the one in the other post.

You could so make one totally radical car out your Bel Air and Camaro Convert. Since I bought a new supply of Sawzall blades and cutoff wheel discs; I am all set to you help carve up your cars. The Camaro’s convertible top would make it easy, No roof to cut off. Just need to remove the trunk and it’s set for a new wagony roof.

I saw that car I was there at the good guy show and t got a chance to talk to those guys and actually see the car for myself the craftsmanship is unbelievable, metalwork of that caliber is a dying art, I hate to read these peoples ignorant comments about how they could use a sawzall blade and cut off wheel to make a custom car, your opinion is one thing ignorance is another get it together guys

    1. Scott Liggett

Real ignorance is reading a comment and believing everything written in the literal sense. You know they say about people who cant take a joke?

OK, what I’m trying to figure out is how is this any different than just building up an Chevelle/Malibu wagon. Is that Camaro front end really going to add any horsepower? Hells no! And I don’t even thing that they are going to do the woody option either. What’s next a ’69 Mustang with an Country Squire ass end!!! Please stop cross cloning!!!

It is a camaro with a malibu wagon back grafted into the roof of the camaro. The designer the builders and everyone involved happen to be dear friends of mine. I am behind them 110% … I think it is a fresh take on an old idea. I think the citicism needs to be kept to a minimum for the time being. They are only 6 weeks into the project and it was basically at this point so it could be taken to the del mar show. People are bashing this but they embrace the street freak rejects from the 70’s ? or rat (barf) rods? Lighten up a bit and give credit where credit is due. There is no shortage of camaros so why the hell not. It was an original 307 car.. The metal work is not finished by far so maybe just give it a chance before you go being so damn rude!

If they’re not using up things that are rare and irreplaceable, there’s nothing wrong in principle with creating phantom prototypes and other “coulda, shoulda, woulda” fakes.

’69 Camaros are not remotely endangered. So such a common vehicle is a better foundation for a one-of-one “what-if” build.

Most certainly styling, coachbuilding , workmanship, materials, fit and finish will be scrutinized in anything so radical. But the sport wagon/shooting brake concept kept popping up so frequently back in the ’60s and ’70s that a Camaro “waggie” certainly was something that crossed the designers’ minds.

And had GM actually built one, they’d have probably tried to use as many existing stampings and trim bits as possible. So it’s hard to fault the Chevelle influence if they’re really going for a “Fisher Body” production-ready look and feel.

i can understand both points of view, its different for sure! And Jerzy, everyone is entitled to there opinion! that said, its not any different than what the king of Kustom used to do to cars but a lot less extreme!

The rear section is way too big. If it were done more like the 68-72 corvette wagon conversions, then it might look ok.

oh, and the dorky big wheels with no rubber on them sure don’t look right on a wagon…but that’s another story.

Chad, I’m with Brian on this one, I like it. Before reading the copy or any of the comments, the moment I saw the rendering I thought it looked cool. That red 68 more door looks like crud. The 69 two door looks correct.

Besides, you can wagonize almost any car. Giotto Bizzarrini took Ferrari’s 250 SWB and basicly turned it into a sedan delivery, dubbed the “Breadvan.” And those looked cool and hauled ass. Enzo Ferrari wanted to kill him for doing it. My point being, a Ferrari, a Camaro, a Jaguar (Harold & Maude), I say give it a try, but do it right. It looks like this 69 Camaro will be done right.

If I see this at a car show and a regular red camaro with rallys……I’m going to go look a the wagon. Camaro’s are turning into belly button cars….

    Everyone has one…..

  13. Big Russ

The rendering I can dig… Not a Camaro fan by any means but it looks “right” vs the 4 door
