COVID-19 Fallout: Official Statements Regarding Motorsports Event Changes

COVID-19 Fallout: Official Statements Regarding Motorsports Event Changes

For the past week, I’ve been either in my garage, working on the cars, working on a house that needed to be half-rebuilt, or sleeping. Yes, I’ve been hearing about the Covid-19 epidemic, but just how fast it’s progressed from “wash your hands and stay home if you’re sick” to where we are at currently at press time is astounding. In all of my lifetime, I haven’t seen anything like it. I’ve seen empty store shelves and people standing around, pissed off and actively waiting for the next shipment to arrive. I’ve seen otherwise ordinary people turn into manic preachers proclaiming the end-times and I’ve seen friends in the medical field trying to put out some fires that exist for the wrong reasons. Here’s all that I’m gonna say: soap and water, stay home if you’re sick, and for the love of all that is holy, if you do get sick, stay home to limit the amount of people that have to go through the misery. If you’ve got a project car, now is the time to start spinning wrenches. If you don’t, maybe you should. Just saying, this will pass and the roadways are going to be wide open and waiting.

So far, here’s the official statements from as many motorsports activities that have moved dates, canceled, or have opted to run without fan attendance that we know of. If you have plans that are scheduled within the next three weeks, you might want to get on the Internet or the phone and check to make sure those plans are still legitimate.

Be safe out there.

How will we tell the difference in Nascar? Don’t they already compete in front of empty stands?

Beat me to it ! They could space people out every 20′ and still have room. NASCAR fans ….now you can watch from home, swill beer and eat chips to your heart’s content. I will watch Sunday just to hear the commentary…

Not a NASCAR fan, but get tired of the arrogant hoity, toity comments from people who think their chosen form of motorsports is better than the next guys.Guess what, I probably don’t like the same type of competition you do, but I’m not going to knock it. We really should all stick together.

My comment was intended to be a statement about how there are fewer and fewer fans watching Nascar every year. Not a comment on the quality of the racing.

It’s getting more ridiculous by the hour. You have about the same odd of being stuck by lightning.
