Rough Start: A Lincoln Mark VII LSC For A Grand-How Can You Lose?

Rough Start: A Lincoln Mark VII LSC For A Grand-How Can You Lose?

The entire reason behind the Rough Start segment was to maximize the fun-for-the-dollar ratio. That means different things to different people and I think I’ve tried to spread that around as best as I know how, from legit muscle to a barge that one could have serious fun with without breaking the bank. In the end, we all want to go fast and enjoy whatever we shell out our hard-earned dollars for…that’s why I instilled the budget system, to keep this in check. With that being said, I believe I’ve found one of, if not the best situation I’ve seen yet for getting the most for the least.

I’ve featured Lincoln Mark VII’s before. They are a handsome version of the “AeroBird” era large-Fox coupe, are plenty powerful and luxurious, and in the top-of-the-line LSC trim, have a slight menace coupled with the Mustang GT’s 302. It’s a killer package that has a huge aftermarket of possibilities just waiting to be explored. This particular LSC is in Flagstaff, Arizona and is listed for an even $1,000. It runs, drives, and is just a touch rough. The paint is typical Arizona cooked, the driver’s side fender has taken a hit, the air suspension has called it a career and the interior has more cracks and age lines than Betty White. So there are problems. You’re out $1000 on a $5000 budget…what’s stopping you from replacing the front fender, getting the suspension in order and working the engine over?

Even the seller knows what’s up: “With a little TLC, this could be a great car for students!” Damn skippy. This could be the perfect budget hot rod for someone. There’s $4K in the kitty to fix this up. How could you lose?

I love these. Great cars. It seems like yesterday that they were brand new and cost a fortune for that time.

The air suspension was the only draw back to these cars, and there is a way around that, I had several I ran through my car lot back in the 1990’s, great ride but those airstruts/airshocks were effin’ expensive.

If this car was local to me, it’d already be in my driveway. I’ve had two of these and loved them both, currently looking for another one too, but nice, low mileage examples are not easy to find and get pretty good money.
The guy writing the ad is right – coil spring conversions are not expensive and solve the air suspension issue permanently.
He is wrong about the door locks though, plan on replacing the lock actuator, because that’s always what it is with Fords from this era, but not a big deal.
Nice driving cars, very comfortable, good power and whatever you can do to a Mustang, you can do to a LSC.
    This deal is a bargain.
