Found: A Perfect 1972 Opel GT Trar – Tiny Car With 44-Inch Tires = BS Approved!

BangShift tipster Rich Hintze is establishing himself as a true ninja of the internets. He’s dug up a bunch of cool stuff from eBay and CraigsList over the last few weeks, but this is the king of his finds. A 1972 Opel GT TRAR based off of a 1978 Chevy K5 Blazer frame that has been modified. While lots of people, actually the vast majority of people hate trars we dig ’em. Why? Many reasons but the fact that they are virtually all home built means that the mental DNA of the owner/builder is present and accounted for, also there was a monster truck back in the 1980s called “Blue Thunder” that had a real 1967 Camaro body on it and was controlled by a helicopter joystick by Kurt Dabney. Not that we remember it or anything, but it may have made an impression.

This TRAR is probably packing a small block engine between the frame rails, 12 bolt axles, a Turbo 400 transmission and the most prized piece of the package, an NP203 transfer case. This was the full time 4WD ‘case used in full size Blazers from the early through the late 1970s. The cast iron case and beefy internals makes them very good pieces in truck guy’s eyes and nightmares to handle and swap. The tires on this baby are 44-inches tall.

In the world of the TRAR this appears to be of coach built quality. The axles are aligned with the wheel wells, there isn’t an amazingly awful level of body lift used, it doesn’t have double frames stacked on top of one another, it is probably legal for road use in zero states because the tires are all out in the breeze, and it has just enough space to two grown men to look like trained bears inside it. Like we said, Disney levels of magic happening here.
