eBay Find: An Obnoxious (and 100-percent BangShift Approved) Straight Axle 1964 GTO

eBay Find: An Obnoxious (and 100-percent BangShift Approved) Straight Axle 1964 GTO

A 1964 GTO with a mile high stance, first converted to a straight axle in 1970, this car is all kinds of hairy. According to the seller the car used to pack a blown alky burning big block Chevy and has run into the 8.90 zone down the quarter mile. While Pontiac purists are recoiling in horror over the idea of an original ’64 tri-power car being morphed into a creation such as this, we are kind of in love.

The flat purple paint has to go in a hurry, but the rest of the car can stay. We’d fill the gaping hole in the engine compartment with a blown Pontiac displacing 421ci just for nostalgia’s sake. Sure that would require some re-engineering of the engine bay to make sure it fit, a new set of headers, and an adapter to use the current built transmission, it would be worth it.

Cruising range won’t be a huge problem seeing that the twin fuel cells in the trunk will hold half a gasoline tanker’s volume of fuel. Oh, yeah we’d also have to convert the fuel system back to running gasoline as the last go-go juice that flowed through this purple eater was alcohol.

We’d not recommend much autocross or high speed cornering action with this car. She ain’t a corner carver! That being said, cruising and drag racing the thing would be a laugh riot, just for the looks you’d get!
