The 2015 Houston Low Rider Picnic – If It Was Low And In Houston, It Showed! Neat Cars Of All Shapes, Colors, and Sizes

The 2015 Houston Low Rider Picnic – If It Was Low And In Houston, It Showed! Neat Cars Of All Shapes, Colors, and Sizes

(Photos by Charles Wickam) – In our never ending quest to cover all parts of the automotive world, we’re bringing some sweet low rider coverage to you today via these Charles Wickam photos form the 2014 Houston Low Rider picnic. Charles reports that for a number of years, many of the low rider clubs in the Houston area have gotten together on the weekend after the first of the year and just hung out to enjoy some fun, eat some food, and of course, check out some cars. What we like about this collection of photos is that it really illustrates the different generations and styles that the low rider culture has embraced over the years. From the round fender cars of the 1940s to the tail dragging machines of the 1950s, and right into the cars that have gotten more popular in the “modern era” of the low rider, this meet had them all. Yes, there are a couple in here that we wouldn’t be super excited to own, but the vast majority of these cars are pretty cool.

Like all the different parts of the car hobby, you can see the evolution of style and the tastes of different periods in history through low riders. If a dad owned a low rider, chances are the kid wanted one but he wanted to do it his own way. In that sense you can start to understand how things have continually moved forward with these cars. The guys in the 1950s would not have comprehended the idea of jumping the cars as is done today (as you’ll see in here) much in the same way as the guys with the jumping cars may like to look at and respect the older machines but don’t really “get” them either. They all have their place and the Houston Low Rider Picnic certainly proves it!

  1. Rolled Brim

Nice coverage, looks like most the pictures were taken early in the day. By mid afternoon there twice as many of cars and a huge amount of bombs and your run of the mill of cars lifted.
