( Words and photos by Dom Damato) – Lights Out Four was the 7th race the Outlaw Radial Tire Championship (ORTC) has hosted at South Georgia Motorsports Park and was killer as ever. A huge rain storm was project to roll through on Friday, so they decided to bump up qualifying to Thursday night and it made for some killer action. The wheels up, fire spitting cars ran nearly non stop all night and had the people who were there on edge. There was stellar pass after stellar pass into the night and records were dropping like flies. Friday and Saturday got rained out and put quite a damper on things till Donald “Duck” Long announced that the race would continue on as soon as the storm let up and the track was race ready. Come Sunday AM the sky cleared and the cars were flyin down the track at 9AM. Just like they did on Thursday, the cars were immediately laying down awesome passes and as the sun started coming down the cars only got faster.

Kyle Huttel put everyone on notice in his Camaro running a track record of 4.25 in his 894 cubic big block with four stages of nitrous. Then he came back to break his own record and laid down a 4.21 to Jason Enos’ 4.22 making it the fastest side by side drag radial pass in history. Jere Etheridge went for a wide ride in his Mustang going through the traps at 118mph on his parachutes and coming down and to a stop safely with minimal damage. Something you rarely see these days with cars of that caliber. Sam Vincent put his fox body up on one wheel in qualifying with his first time out on radials and luckily didnt hurt much and he came back to run on Sunday. Overall it was another bad ass race and somehow these guys just keep getting quicker every year!
