FCA Unveils The Price Of Power: $29,995 For The Hellephant 426 Hemi

FCA Unveils The Price Of Power: $29,995 For The Hellephant 426 Hemi

Last SEMA, FCA rolled out a 1,000 horsepower, 950 Ft/Lbs monster of a 426ci third-gen Hemi to the world and proudly boasted that it would be for sale as a crate engine. Dubbed the “Hellephant”, this frame-twisting, unibody-buckling, tire-destroying end-all-be-all of an engine might seem like automotive insanity run rampant, but in Mopar land it is nothing more than another day at the office…remember, this is the company that sells Hellcats, Demons and Redeyes that come with over 700 horsepower in the baser forms.

It was suggested in the live chat last night that I procure one of these engines for Angry Grandpa, our in-house 2006 Chrysler 300C project. It would be easy to say yes to the power, but think of the poor NAG-1 automatic and the Mercedes rear that have to suffer the abuse, nevermind the actual structure of the car twisting under that torque load! There would be a lot of work and money that would need to go into keeping the 300C from twisting up like a pretzel, but now there is another side of the coin to consider…namely, coin.

Per FCA’s press release:

“The Mopar “Hellephant” 426 Supercharged Crate HEMI Engine (P/N P5160194) will feature an MSRP of $29,995. The “Hellephant” Engine Kit (P/N 77072500), also open for pre-orders, provides relatively easy plug-and-play for experienced installers at an MSRP of $2,265.

Mopar also has a full menu to assist owners in completing their “Hellephant” build, with products including a Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) Kit (P/N 77072492), A/C Expansion Kit (P/N 77072493), Exhaust Manifold Kit (P/N 77072462), Rear Sump Oil Pan Kit (P/N 77072450AB) and 45-degree Oil Filter (P/N 77072447).”

If you’ve got the coin and the perfect car to hide enough power to make the dude in the Bugatti Chiron think twice about f’ing with you, you can hit up CrateHemi.com and place your order. We’d also like to ask that you share the project with us, because whoever has the boulders big enough to go for this engine has to be building something very, very wicked!

What do you think it’d take for some schmuck to make a 1,000 HP engine that runs and is a reliable and dependable as a stocker? I’d say this is a deal!

Or , stick with me here , I could buy a complete running driving 650-700 HP vehicle for the price of the engine and control pack. Do some shopping and be willing to travel and you can have a badass car for the price of these 2 boxes showing up at your door. The engine is very impressive and cudos to Ma Mopar actually marketing it but Damn! That’s big money. Nice for the well healed buyer but not even on my radar. If you got the bucks more power to you but I’d go buy a ‘10 and up GT500 and be able to drive that pile of money around every day.

I really just want them to bring the Viper back with this beast as the top engine option. ZL1 killer.

While in Florida for a short break I couldn’t help but notice the number of “runabouts” sporting triple 200-350 hp outboards. I looked up what a new 350 hp ‘Merc costs: $31,000+! Makes the Hellephant look a lot more “affordable”.

That really isn\’t that bad. A Black Label Mast 900 is over $38k with engine controls and accessory drives. All in they will be about the same, and this offers 100hp and 150tq more.

Thirty grand and then they want to soak you for all the ancillary stuff to make it work…
It’s not like they plan to sell a lot of these anyway, but still.
Regardless, there’ll be two or three if these on IG next week, guaranteed !!
