Founding NASCAR Racer Frank Mundy Dies at Age 90

The last remaining attendee of the famous 1947 meeting at Daytona Beach which resulted in the formation of NASCAR has died. Frank Mundy of Atlanta, Georgia, was that man, and his passing really closes the book on the infancy period of the sport of Stock Car racing.

His name is not all that well known, but Mundy was a good racer in his day, good enough to win several NASCAR races along with a host of others in different sanctioning bodies along the way.

Mundy apparently made big money selling boats after leaving racing in 1956. By all accounts he lived well and he lived long. Should we all be so lucky.

Godspeed Frank, go fast and turn left.
