Same Great Speed, Now With Less Noise: Meet The Genovation GXE, The Electric Vette!

Same Great Speed, Now With Less Noise: Meet The Genovation GXE, The Electric Vette!

Outside of the sensation of being somehow better than others because you are not burning fossil fuels when you drive, what is the one true benefit to an electric car? All the torque, all at once. It’s why Teslas resonate with the performance crowd a bit…for a seven-passenger whale of a sedan, that SOB will move right out in a manner that causes passengers to instantly blurt out every last four-letter word they know as the g-forces kick them right in the gut. Now, there’s an interesting twist on an electrified sports car: it’s the Genovation GXE…or, if you like, the electrified Corvette Grand Sport.

Based on a C7 Corvette setup, the GXE uses twin electric motors that produce 800 horsepower and 700 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels. Five battery packs give the GXE a range of 175 miles if you can keep your foot off of the pedal. Or, should we say, pedals: you can get either the eight-speed automatic or the seven-speed manual gearbox that you’d find in the Corvette in the GXE, which means you’ve got one trump card on the Tesla: more than one forward gear. The claims from Genovation are stout: a 0-60 in under three seconds and a top speed of 220 miles per hour.

There are two downside to the Genovation, though: Only seventy-five will be built, and they cost $750,000 each. That’s expensive for what is pretty much a track toy…

Hate it! What can I say, I like the noise. You tree hugging lovers of these quiet sewing machine cars need to just sit by the fire with your pomeranian in your lap and take a nap while us real car guys go make noise and have fun. And as far as zombie 222…anyone who would electrify a classic car needs to be in front of a firing squad.
