This video could be the greatest study in, “If you are going to do it, you may as well do it right,” that we have ever seen. You are going to see a guy, actually just his hands, get hold of the worst looking tiller you have ever seen and over the course of the video, completely restore the thing. This is no Krylon rebuild, this is hardcore. He takes the motor all the way down the the bare block, rebuilds, repaints, and redoes everything and then turns his attention to the chassis and the mechanical guts of the tiller itself. How hardcore is this dude? He freaking uses an ultrasonic cleaner to get the bolts perfectly good again?!
The best part to us is the fact that he does not get in the way of himself with narration or long winded explanations of what he is doing. You hear natural sound, you see his hands, and you hear the wrenches and ratchets working. Parts that can be sped up and moved over quickly are so we get to concentrate on the meat of the operation.
After watching the restoration of the old drill last week, I have been down the rabbit hole of these videos on YouTube. I think I am going to seek out some old junk to bring back to life. I mean, I am not so sure that I’ll be using body filler on the air cleaner cover to get it concours perfect but there’s something ultimately satisfying about taking a forlorn object and breathing new life into it, right?
The only downside of this program is that the thing is basically too nice looking to use once the restorer is done. Thankfully he does use it and we get to see the end result of his handiwork. This is a great gearhead watch.
I can’t believe any of the bolts came out without breaking or pulling the threads out of the aluminum.
