On its face, a 1953 Dodge Power Wagon is pretty awesome. These steel dinosaurs were slow, tough, and virtually unchanged for many years. They served military roles, various civilian roles, and are widely regarded as some of the toughest trucks ever built. In short, they are bad ass. Understanding that, it would only make sense that the trucks would lend themselves to modification and hot rodding. Boy, you don’t know the half of it. The truck below is freaking awesome. Called Heavy Metal, it is an Alan Johnson headed, Keith Black hemi powered beast that is designed to drag a pulling sled as far as it’ll go.
From the Giant Puller tires, to the alky infected Hemi engine that breaths through a tunnel ram with the bug catcher up top, the thing is great. The fit and finish on the truck looks strong with its beautiful wood sided bed and nice paint with the Havy Metal name on the doors. This thing likely sounds like the end of the world when it is hooked up and rolling. RPM is your friend in making horsepower with heads that flow like sewer pipes and these absolutely do.
Built to NTPA specs, the truck was pulled in the middle of the country and it has a load of good pieces in it from the SCS transmission to the big Rockwell axles that are bolted to both ends.
The coolest part of this rig is the fact that it is not some lame attempt to call a flip top fiberglass, tube chassis thing a Power Wagon. It is original Dodge steel and it has just been muscled up like the Incredible Hulk.
