Is A Pamplona Style Bull Run At A Drag Strip Promotion Genius Or The Dumbest Thing Ever? It Happened.

Is A Pamplona Style Bull Run At A Drag Strip Promotion Genius Or The Dumbest Thing Ever? It Happened.

So my west coast friends are all freaking out of this deal that went down at Virginia Motorsports Park last weekend where a promoter came in, set up a course and unleashed a bunch of bulls onto people who had paid good money to run away from them. It was billed as a budget alternative to getting a horn jammed up your backside in Spain and by the looks of it, a lot of people paid the money to participate. Heck, it seems the majority of them even went with the traditional clothing of white with a red ‘kerchief around their neck. The group that put this event on is planning on putting on 10 more of these around the country. The had multiple “runs” during the day and apparently avoided the racetrack surface itself as the bulls tend to slide and fall on that type of ground. See, these guys are super humane!

In Spain, morons participants run from Spanish fighting bulls which are apparently bred for the task of either goring someone or getting spears jabbed into them until they are dead. Also, it is tradition that those guys have their horns sharpened before the running of the bulls in Pamplona. We think that insane bull horn sharpener is the worst job in the world by a lot. At VMP rodeo bulls were used. We don’t know the difference because one two ton pissed off killing machine looks like the next to us. We’ve never pretended to be (or even like) Jack Hanna around here.

The left coasters are pissed because they barely have any drag strips and it seems that we have so many over here that we’re willing to do dumb junk like this at them. In our mind, if there is an event that makes a facility money and keeps it solvent for racers and hot rodders to enjoy most of the time why not run it and make the money so long as the insurance is paid and the place isn’t liable when a dummy gets turned into a human kabob by a bull? Dinwiddie, Virginia is not exactly the most well populated or wealthy area in the USA. VMP has been on and off the NHRA and IHRA national event tours several times since it was opened in the mid-1990s. They have had a few massive promotional failures like a rap concert that drew about 15 people and was supposed to draw tens of thousands, but this was a winner for them and we’ll take that all day long.

What do you think? Cool that the track made some bucks or is this the worst use of a drag strip you have ever heard about?

Here’s a news story about the event

Hey – What ever floats their boat. If knuckleheads want to pay good money to be chased by bulls and possibly get gored/injured that’s fine as long as the track made money I guess.
These same people probably wouldn’t otherwise come to a Drag Strip – which I guess is probably a good thing. I don’t think they would get it.

A old saying – horses for corses. If the track made money it can’t be a bad thing – as a racer I would probably pay to watch the bulls chase people .(sounds fxxking hilarious to me)

Royal Purple Raceway outside of Houston is having one later in the year, I was planning on going to it just to check it out

BTW they are just bulls not trained in any art of goring, that comes naturally.
Horns are pretty pointy without the aid of a file.
It is tradition to run them through the town to the bullring.
Where they die, non get second place.

In any aspect, it’s stupid and if the strip doesn’t mind their insurance going up ten fold then enjoy the law suits to follow from PETA.
