It’s Good to be the Sheik: Al-Anabi Team Owner Sheik Khalid bin Hamad Al-Thani Drives F1 Car

Sheik Khalid bin Hamad Al-Thani, the owner of the massive, international Al-Anabi drag racing team, recently made history, becoming the first ever Qatari to drive a Formula One car. The ride was taken in a William FW31 race car and was made at Quatar’s new Formula One track. He went through training on a simulator for some time before being allowed to drive the car.

The Sheik is a motorhead of major league proportions. He has declared his primary love to be drag racing, but it is pretty clear he’s into anything that makes vroom vroom noises like we are. He is investing a lot of money to build one of the largest multi-purpose racing facilities in the world, Qatar Motor City. England’s Oxford Times covered the event.

Unlike recent drag racing benefactors, there seems to be little chance of the Sheik being sought out by Federal authorities for defrauding the government or private citizens out of large sums of money. This guy really seems like the real deal. He can drive the wheels off of a Pro Mod and now it seems he’s capable behdind the wheel of an F1 car. Pretty neat if you ask us.
