It Came From Craigslist: We Found G.I. Joe’s Hot Rod In The Form Of A 1972 AMC Javelin Trar!

As I write this, it’s two in the morning and I’m possibly hallucinating. I say that because there is no possible way that somebody mated up a “military frame” and a Caterpillar 3208 diesel to a 1972 AMC Javelin, painted it in early 1980s Army camouflage, let the paint sun-bake for nearly 30 years, and put it on the Internet for sale. That kind of creativity is fueled by something…judging from the location provided by Craigslist (Tucson, Arizona), one might be inclined to believe that peyote might have played a part. Or maybe a local has a Mad Max fascination…it wouldn’t be the first Javelin we’ve seen done up for post-apocalyptic warfare, but the military theme throws us off and the Cat diesel just throws us for a loop.

We don’t know that we’d trust our lives to this trar’s survival. The suspension does not inspire confidence…just look at the setups and realize that this isn’t a joke, someone was honestly trying here…and we can’t identify the frame, though we’ve narrowed the options down to three: M880 Dodge, CUCV GM, or homemade. Given the rest of the build, we’re leaning towards option #3. The 3208 isn’t even known to run at this point.

Be honest: there’s at least one of you that would romp this thing in the desert without abandon. All we will say is best of luck.

Looks M880, but that suspension is frightening. I think the camouflage is to hide the fact that it says “caveat emptor” all over it!

Drugs and welders should never ever ever EVER mix. And did anyone else see the front suspension….. Uhhh…. Spring “under” with NO FREAKING SPRINGS. exactly how does that work again? But I bet this dude got an ‘A’ in both his welding class AND his “freestyle creative arts” class at Pima Community College.

      HA!

This guy has been spending to much time at the arts festivals and hanging with the hippies down on 4th ave.
