BangShift Project Files: This 1964 Buick Skylark Wagon Was Picked Up For A Song!

One of BangShift’s more active wrenches in the forum is SuperBuickGuy. Aaron has had enough projects going on over the years that I honestly have a hard time keeping up with the tally…there’s been several trucks, a GTO, a Cadillac/Fiat combination, a couple of Buicks of varying years and styles, at least two Corvettes that I’m aware of, and that’s just what I can come up with at the moment. Something is always going on in the shop at the bottom of the steepest damn driveway in Western Washington, usually interesting, but whether or not they become permanent residents of the shop is something else altogether. Vehicles aren’t sacred in SBG’s world…they can come and go for the most part. But a few stay, and a few get sought out. This 1964 Skylark wagon is one of those cars. He has been searching for one of these Buick longroofs for a couple of years…in fact, my memory is a little hazy but I think I looked at one in Phoenix for him when I lived in Arizona. Circumstances didn’t allow that deal to go through, but with the deal he got on a local car he found at a swap meet, he’s for the better, anyways. Think three digits…

Now, here’s where things get interesting, and where you’ll have to follow along to make sure you catch everything. SBG works quickly and changes his mind with the weather patterns in the Midwest (I’d say Washington, but the weather there is pretty damn predictable from my experience.) Right now, a turbocharged, non-intercooled Buick V6 and a 200R4 automatic are on the list to go into the Skylark, but that might change…there’s enough Buick V8 parts in that shed to piece together at least three more ready-to-run mills if he decides to go that route. But for now, the plan is in place and work has commenced on the relatively little rust and relatively widespread use of Bondo in the doors. Follow along…SBG’s handiwork never ceases to amuse or inform.

My buddy has the same year but a sport wagon (like Vista Cruiser) ls swapped with a turbo.

Turbo and Six are set, what that looks like in the end – I dunno. Large block Buicks (think 8 cylinders), are too heavy for the front of this.
