Iron Trap 1932 Ford “DeLorean” Roadster: RARE Flathead Ford 2 Speed Rear Shifter Conversion

This week’s video has Matt doing hot rod stuff to the roadster. It has an ultra rare Columbia 2-speed rear end under it and the hot rodder in him wants to make the thing work manually instead of with the convoluted and expensive vacuum operation that they came with. He’s got some good inspiration, some pictures, and some parts so we’re sure he can make it happen.

Iron Trap has got all kinds of great projects, but this ’32 Ford Roadster is going to be something. It’s weird to see them getting new parts for a car like this, but it is the right choice to make this car as “original” as possible. Check out the two videos below that show how this project is getting started and then follow along as we’ll bring you regular updates.

Video Description:

Columbia two speed rears were originally vacuum operated, and could be quite problematic. On top of not always working well, the original controls that went under the dash are very hard to find. With all of these know problems, Matt has always wanted to use a Columbia rear but shift it with mechanical linkage. The famous hot rodder Fred Steele built two amazing roadsters with Columbia’s that were shifted mechanically! After getting some reference photos on how Fred designed his, Matt gets to work building his own version!!
