Scrapple, Your Guide To The “meh”-Worthy News! This Week: Electric Truck, Hipster Toast and More!

New year, same old dish. As everything outside of BangShift Mid-West gets coated in a nice, shiny layer of ice, we went through some of the news snippets that didn’t quite past the muster on their own, but with a slight roasting and a bit of rework, might be good together. Here’s Scrapple:

1. A new challenger appears for the battle of the torque!

GM’s medium duty trucks were among the casualties of The Recession, which was a shame…the Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick were pretty good. After eight years out of the market the General is teasing out a newcomer to the market. The Silverado 4500 and 5500 will have regular and crew-cab variations and will come standard with the Duramax 6.6L and Allison automatic. Judging from the one teaser shot we’ve seen, we expect the pickup truck cab to be used, unlike the third-gen Kodiak/TopKick, which used a cab that was sourced from the Express/Savana van.

2. WTF? No. Just no.

STOP THIS MADNESS NOW.

3. “Look before you leap”, buddy!

If you take your four-wheel-drive onto lands you don’t own and don’t have permission to be on, you are taking all of the risk on. If you are four-wheeling near a lake and think that you can’t get stuck because it’s so cold that the ground is frozen, then take a hint from the owner of this brand-new Chevy. Not only did he bury the truck in the slightly-thawed permafrost, but he also buried the tractor he had rented to dig it out. His biggest problem? Come spring, that spot is under seven feet of water. Whoops…

4. At least you’ll save money by not tipping…

5. Tree’d Tesla!

The last time we had looked at the Workhorse W-15 pickup truck, it was a fleet-order only item. Not anymore: the company has opened up private reservations. You plunk down a refundable $1,000 to put your name on the list and that money will go towards the $52,500 W-15. Then you apply the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, and you are down to $45,000. Deliveries will start in late 2018 for the fleet customers. For a refresher, CLICK HERE to get the low-down on the whole truck!

  1. chevy hatin' mad geordie

Elon Musk should be chained behind the exhaust pipe of a Mustang GT500 and made to inhale the fumes until his brain is so fuddled he starts putting Coyote motors into all his cars!

  2. Whelk

A combo recharging station and drive in restaurant actually makes sense. If you have to sit at the charger for 30 minutes anyway, might as well get a meal.
