SCTA Speed Week 2018: The Racing May Be Over But Our Photos Are Not!

SCTA Speed Week 2018: The Racing May Be Over But Our Photos Are Not!

(Photos by Chad Reynolds) – While it is true that by the time many of you read this, the competition at SCTA Speed Week 2018 will be over, our photos are far from it and will roll on for days. When the big book of speed is written, Speed Week 2018 will go down in history as one of the most titanic gatherings of fast hot rods in history. Why? 5 cars ran more than 400mph which is if not entirely unheard of, pretty damned close. Far more than that ran 300+ including the famed Trackmaster Fabrication Special in the lead image. The battle for big speed supremacy was far and beyond anything we have ever experienced and when you start to weave in the personal stories along with the cars, someone could literally write a book about what just happened at Bonneville.

There’s an interesting element to this event that happens when a few of the big guns get locked into a battle like the one we witnessed. The energy level on the salt rockets up, people are hyper aware of who is running and when they may run again. The Hot Rod Top Time trophy provided the greatest drama of this week because there were so many worthy contenders. We’ll tell the larger story next week but for now, here’s fresh photos!
