This is a cool story from our pals at RideTech. Recently they had a neat car in the shop and used the opportunity to both upgrade it and prototype some new parts on it. The car? A 1970 Dodge Charger that was formerly owned by Kyle Petty and is now one by Rutledge Wood. No the car is not cool just because of the fact that Petty owned it but the fact it has hand made quarter panels likely created by the guys at Petty’s race shop back in the day along with loads of other character building aspects. This is a car that Petty drove in high school and it has been away for a long time.
Here’s an excerpt from the story:
The Charger came to us with handmade fenders and quarter panels that accommodate wide American Racing 200-S wheels. The wheels are really cool looking; back in the day, we referred to them as Daisy spokes. As delivered, the Petty Charger had drum brakes at all four corners and its original 383. Other than a stint on the alignment rack and a few “BEFORE” laps around the test track, RideTech wasted little time removing the suspension in anticipation of building a prototype B-Body Chrysler StreetGRIP Suspension System.
The Kyle Petty Charger just left for its new life with Rutledge Wood. In addition to the prototype StreetGRIP kit, RideTech installed a complete Wilwood four wheel disc brake kit and new steering gear. Forgeline’s ML3C wheels have just the right amount of vintage vibe when used in conjunction with tall Continental tires. Handling, ride quality and braking are light-years ahead of the original configuration.
it doesnt look that bad, just not onboard with the dish or offset of the rear wheels, that sunk in look from angles just doesnt look right flat and boring imho, far too many modern setups use this.
Why oh why paint this absolute beauty in boring and trendy white. Please forgive my ignorance but if Kyle is the brother of the great Richard surely it should be painted in the trademark blue?
Kyle isn’t the brother, He’s the son of the great Richard. I agree on the blue but, that is one gorgeous Charger.
BTW I’m a Chevy Lovin’ Happy Tim
Tim – in the UK mad means completely barkingly insane…
