DIY Shop Tools: Building An Arbor Press From A 1972 Popular Mechanics Magazine Plan

Building tools and equipment in your garage is always fun, and every time you use a tool you made yourself it’s a better experience than if you only use tools you buy. I’ve got lots of small tools I built myself, and even some that my grandpa built. But in this video, you are going to see Jason from Fireball Tools build an arbor press, but not just any arbor press. Nope, this one is being built from a set of plans in Popular Mechanics Magazine in 1972. Apparently this is supposed to be a pretty badass arbor press, so of course, Jason is going to build it to the plan and then see if it will perform as claimed in the plans.

Video Description:

I dive into my collection of Popular Mechanics Magazines to build something from the distant past! I build an arbor press from scratch using some of my favorite tools. Then, I test it to see if it can press as hard as it claims. I demonstrate stick welding, drilling, and shimming.
