(Photos by Chad Reynolds) – Thursday is a very unique day at SCTA Speed Week and that is because it is the final day to qualify for a record. If you go fast enough to make impound you will race on Friday in a small group of competitors who are looking lock down what would have been a solid week of work and dedication. For some teams, Thursday is a gravy day and if they make impound, great. If they do not, well those guys will get ’em next year.
This year is particularly interesting because of the fact that SCTA officials moved the course onto fresh salt for Thursday record runs and that’ll benefit everyone capable of using the long course as it got really loose at the top end yesterday.
The Speed Demon of George Poteet and Ron Main is shown in the lead photo above. This car and team are looking to maintain the hot streak they have had going for about a decade now and that’s capturing the Hot Rod top speed flag/trophy thing. The car is incredible, the crew is top shelf and they have been stricken with little problems here and there. Rumor has it that if the conditions are right we may see 480 out of the steamliners.

Racing continues today until noon, if someone qualifies for an record, they will be able to try and back the record up after lunch.
