Trevor Bayne Released From Hospital, No Date Set on Racing Return

NASCAR’s Trevor Bayne is living through one of the most manic years in the history of humankind. Of course it began with his improbable win at the 2011 Daytona 500 for Wood Brothers Racing, which was the high point. The season continued with Bayne looking exceedingly human and like a guy who had not put thousands of laps under his belt in the top ranks of stock car racing. Things took a turn for the weird and bad last week when Bayne was admitted into the Mayo clinic after days of suffering from vision problems, fatigue, and nausea. It has been reported from multiple sources that these symptoms seem to have stemmed from a bug bite. In our uneducated, non-medical knowing, opinion, Bayne may be suffering from Lyme disease.

Of all the strange stuff we have seen and heard race car drivers get sidelined for, this one is in a league by itself. We certainly do not question Bayne or his motivations for getting checked out, it is just amazing that something like this happened to him, especially with the way his year has been going.

He has been released by the hospital because his fatigue and nausea issues are cleared up, but the vision problem remains and that is keeping him out of a race car. Again, from multiple sources, we are hearing that the vision issue is being dealt with via medication and when he’s clear to return to the seat, the Wood Brothers told him that they’d certainly have a job waiting.

We cannot imagine what it is like going through the stratospheric highs and abysmal lows Bayne has faced thus far in 2011. Hopefully he will be back on the track soon and some day he can look back on this whole experince and laugh. We’re thinking that day is a few miles down the road!
