$500 Vintage Snowmobile Endurance Challenge…Or, Frozen (Bum) Rush!

I’ve driven fast cars and brutal trucks. I’ve flown helicopters and airplanes. I’ve crashed off of dirt bikes more times than I’d like to admit and even ran myself over with a three-wheeler, but one thing I’ve never ridden is a snowmobile. Why? Because snow. I have a short tolerance span for being cold, and usually that doesn’t last long enough that I have been near anyone who owns a sled. Not in the Colorado Rockies, not in the Olympics of Washington State, nothing. No joke, the closest I’ve ever come to riding a snowmobile was the time that Lohnes and I shared a ride in a Sno-Cat to our photography point for Red Bull Frozen Rush.

Kevin lives in Iowa. That might seem a bit south for snowmobiles…and you’re probably right. But he has a lot of friends who live in places like Wisconsin and Minnesota, and he’s got a knack for finding cheap things that just need some severe hammer usage, enough penetrating lube to break the rust on the Titanic’s anchor winch, and the kind of swearing that even the military doesn’t tolerate…erm, I mean love, mechanical care and an eye for a proper restoration.

He also likes roping his friends in on the fun, so what we have here is is second-annual wintertime challenge. Instead of littering his own backyard with the busted plastic remains of a fleet of rusted Pontiacs like last time, this year he is putting the entire inventory of Uncle Olaf’s Used Snowmobiles to the test on a frozen lake with a bunch of deviants. Sound like fun? Want to know how many beers you can stash in a 1970 Polaris Mustang? Hit play below to find out.
