Another Day, Another Video Of A Crash Involving Someone Showing Off At A Car Show. DON’T BE THAT GUY!

It’s happened again. Some dolt in a car that is probably four times the vehicle they should ever need was filmed making an ass of himself while endangering not only himself, but everyone around him, for the sake of the show. The video hits YouTube, and immediately any and everything about what happens falls under the microscope of the Internet’s judgmental eye. Here’s the facts: The Shelby GT500, which makes 662 horsepower bone-stock (we don’t know if this car was modified power-wise or not) is not a first-timer’s car. It does not suffer fools, and requires maturity to safely operate. The driver, as they were leaving a car show, rolled into the throttle, broke the back end loose and hazed the tires off. He then shifted gears, the Shelby got upset, spun, slammed into a parked Ram 1500, bounced off of the truck, slid across some grass and came to rest parked against a New Edge-era Mustang. The driver of the car was taken to a local hospital in an ambulance.

By sheer mercy only the idiot behind the wheel seems to be hurt. But the owner of the Ram is now out of a truck, because it was hit hard enough to spin almost 180 degrees around, and the owner of the older Mustang has wrinkled bodywork from where the Shelby, which is totaled out without question, came to rest. And what’s the first thing that I see about this whole incident? The airbags did not deploy. That’s the first issue? Not that the driver of the Shelby lost all brain function before deciding to do a high-speed rolling burnout, not that a Shelby Mustang hit a 6,300+ pound pickup truck hard enough to spin it around, not that the dude is damn lucky he didn’t remove himself from the gene pool with this stunt, or that the Shelby didn’t roll over once it hit the curb? The airbags didn’t go off in a side impact. Way to focus on the important issues.

Every time stupid shit like this goes viral, it’s another blow to the automotive community that is honestly trying to keep from being marginalized. If you want to keep enjoying what we all love, find this guy in your group and ram some sense into them before they become another viral video.

Senseless. From the slow-mo replay it looks like the guy thought he could save it, when he should have just admitted defeat and put both feet in. Gorgeous car ruined by tacky wheels and an idiot driver.

WAY TOO COMMON, people who have no business owning things like performance automobiles, motorbikes, boats, etc.

  3. keezling

Dumb ass #1, the driver. Dumb ass #2, the Ram owner who chose the perfect spot to see the action real close up. Rest of dumb asses, the organ donors who stand along the road for the same reason.

Glad to see no passenger was in the Mustang, then it would have been real ugly.

I don’t understand why some people think when they start losing control, still stay in the throttle.

What a maroon as Bugs Bunny used to say. No doubt he will bring a law suit against Ford because the air bags didn’t go off and will get millions of dollars from it.

I hope the owner reads these comments and realizes what a total asshat he is.

You can’t drive and you put clown wheels on a GT500. Way to keep it classy.

it’s common that in low speed (low g-force) impacts the airbags won’t deploy if the occupant is not wearing their seatbelt. (They’ll get injured more from the airbag exploding than just hitting the steering wheel) This not only contributed to why the driver suffered injuries. But it’s why in a car with probably a dozen airbags none were deployed.

Blah, blah, blah – he is an idiot, what a loser, out of talent etc. Tell me honestly that anyone who wrote those comments could NEVER have succumbed to the temptation only to have things get away so fast you couldn’t recover. I feel bad for everyone involved including the driver.

You have to be smarter than your car and to be able to control stupid amounts of horsepower and just because you can pay for it doesn’t mean you should buy it. Some of the new cars being sold today have more than half the HP that top fuel cars had in the 60s. I do hope this guy broke his vagina.

A couple of people have speculated as to why the airbags didn’t deploy. The first question is whether or not the car in question had side airbags.

The front airbags won’t deploy in a side hit crash.

The interesting point I noted from the video was the driver didn’t attempt to steer out of the skid… off the throttle and a little steering input might have changed the outcome – bummer for the driver, the car, and the others involved.

I work to reserve judgement of some of these drivers. I’m certain that most of us who have driven, or who drive high power cars and bikes all have experienced close calls, either where we’ve lost it and crashed, or almost crashed. The difference these days is that it seems there is always someone with a camera to capture the carnage…
