Awesome Truck TV Commercials From The 1960s and 1970s – Gimmicks, Abuse, and Bragging Galore!

Awesome Truck TV Commercials From The 1960s and 1970s – Gimmicks, Abuse, and Bragging Galore!

It is Christmas Eve and you are doing one of a few things. You are (a) at work killing time and paying absolutely no attention to the business you are supposed to be tending to (b) drinking (c) panic shopping for a loved one that you didn’t buy anything for because you were wrenching on your stuff (d) killing time before a family get together today (e) all of the above. Most of you are probably in category E so we’re going to help you pass your drunken time with this collection of kick ass truck television commercials from the 1960s and 1970s. There were no more campy, bragging, and hard core ads than those for trucks. Companies would try to outdo each other with stunts proving their stuff was the toughest. Because there was no such thing as CGI back then, it was all for real. Wait until you see what some of these poor bastards went through. We can  only imagine the companies shipped multiple trucks to some of these shoots to make sure they had a running example at the end. Not all of the ads are destructo derby. Some are funny, some are witty, and all of them are pretty neat in our opinion.

Pop a beer, a soda, a fifth of good Scotch, or whatever your pleasure and watch these truck ads from an era when men were men and trucks were stone age tough!

Ford was like, “Let’s see you drop a friggin’ Chevy and drive it off, Jasper!” This redefines the idea of “full suspension compression”

Chevy very briefly used the slogan, “Saturday night beautiful…Monday morning tough.” – We know guys who got married on that premise.

This 1969 Dodge truck commerical uses a guy in an ape suit capturing a woman and then ditching the blonde for the truck as its premise. Genius.

This 1968 International Scout ad features a cute beagle puppy….because that’s tough. Ok, it isn’t but this still rules.

Chuck Connors was a bad ass. He’s dead now, but trust us. He was a way cool dude when he was alive. In this photo he comically isn’t driving when this ’77 Dodge gets thrashed –

This 1981 Ford ad has an awesome hook. We’ll boil it down for you. “This bitch will go 1100 miles on the highway with a 38 gallon gas tank” – Oh, and it also does sweet jumps.

You know how you sold a truck in ’73? You did like Chevy and advertised inner fenders and a big block. BOOM.

In this ad, some crazy son of a bitch named Harold actually falls asleep in the slid in camper riding in the back of the 1968 International pickup being advertised…while his wife drives up a mountain.

This 1975 Datsun truck ad uses a bad country song and ends with a quick shot of someone in a tuxedo getting out of the vehicle – It also calls the truck the “Lil Hustler” — no man wants that

I actually remember a couple of these ads. I loved the old trucks and they remind me of some of my happiest (and most carefree) teen days.
