Cool Video: A Chute’s-Eye View of an 8-second drag car run

Cool Video: A Chute’s-Eye View of an 8-second drag car run

It is tough to really illustrate the speed of a bad ass drag car through video. Actually, it used to be hard to do that. Before killer little cameras became commonplace, industrious racers would mount big frontward facing cameras in their cars, shooting through the front window. That was all well and good but it never really felt “fast”.

We can promise you that this angle feels very fast! GoPro cameras are taking us to places we’ve never been and at angles we’ve never seen. Although this video is not a ground breaking piece of cinematic creativity, it still rules.

The camera was mounted on the back end of our pal Jon Sandahl’s Chevy II during a test session at New England Dragway. The car uses a poked and stroked big block Chevy on a healthy dose of nitrous  to run mid-eights. Watch how quickly the starter just disappears!

Also note the unique timing tower of New England Dragway at the rear of the car.

  1. Jon Sandahl

That was first round last Saturday, the track was 140 degrees and greasy. I took a bunch of timing out to calm the hit and had it ramp back in 2.5 seconds. You can hear the engine sound change at 48 seconds when it returns to full timing. a great tuning aid thats easy to use.
