The Down-And-Dirty Do It Yourself Hitch Rack! Finnegan And Crew Show You How They Made One For Mike’s ’55 Chevy!

We were glad to see Mike Finnegan’s 1955 Chevy, “Blasphemi”, making it to Drag Week this year. We were less than enthused to hear that he managed to stick a valve through a piston and into the deep guts of the Hemi that sits in-between the framerails. Build, Break and Repeat is the mantra of a true racer…that, or “don’t race anything you wouldn’t shove off of a cliff”. But we aren’t here to discuss the dead player engine. No, we are here because Finnegan put some serious work into getting Blasphemi ready for the long trek from track to track, and he intended on making the journey without the use of a trailer.

If you review the footage of “Two-Lane Blacktop” you will notice that for being two drifter racers, there is nothing to The Driver and The Mechanic’s car except a pair of slicks where the rear seat would normally be. There isn’t a trailer carting around tools and spare parts. But since Mike isn’t ready to hack out everything underneath the rear glass to sit two slicks, he figured the next best thing would be a hitch-mounted rack. This would give him a way to crate tools as well as his race rubber, and as a bonus, could be wheeled into the hotel room (much to the amusement or chagrin of the hotel staff, but perfect for Mike’s peace of mind).

Too bad “Mr Peabody and Sherman” couldn’t go back and tell them…” buy a cheap Harbor Freight trailer and check your motor one more time”.
