Historical Footage: Car Craft’s “Project 200” 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra Making The Record Run

The 1993 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra was one of the first indications that Ford was really getting serious with the Mustang again after nearly letting it die in the mid-1980s. It was a one-year production, the last Fox-body before the SN95 came out, and with it a 5.0L that was pushing a wild and raging 235 horsepower. Those may have been good numbers back in the day, but even then there was the quest for more…more power and more speed. So when Car Craft got their hands on a Cobra, they immediately got to work on making the car scream with the goal of hitting an honest 200 MPH. Using a combination of factory parts and a Vortech supercharger, Duttweiler Performance built the engine up to 740 horsepower. Shoving editor John Baechtel behind the Mustang’s wheel, the Mustang made pass after pass, with the supercharger’s pulley eating the belt every time. MotorWeek was on hand to witness the runs and filmed it all, and recently released it as part of their “Retro Review” series. Take a look back to the early 1990s….those wheels…
