Historical Footage: The Positive Side Of Messing With A German Car – The 1997 RENNtech SL500 As Tested By MotorWeek!

Lately, you’d swear that there is only one German auto manufacturer: Volkswagen. Since last year the phrase on everybody’s lips has been “Dieselgate”, the complete self-undoing of the eco-friendly diesel car image that VW had been cultivating for years. As the VW Group continues to endure the meltdown scene as best as they can, we decided to take a look at the brighter side of screwing with a standard German automobile. In this case, we found MotorWeek’s footage of their test involving the RENNtech SL500. RENNtech was started by Hartmut Fehyl, a former AMG technical director who was instrumental in bringing the legendary AMG Hammer to life. He moved to Florida, started RENNtech, and proceeded to turn any and every Mercedes product he could get his hands on into something to behold. In high school, if I had to make a choice for what car I wanted, it was a toss-up between this car and the E60 four-door sedan. Both would threaten super cars while being more comfortable and understated, just how I like them. Just please…any other color besides that purple. Thank you.
