Hot Rod Garage Hacks Up The “Project Fishtail” ‘Cuda For It’s New Powertrain – Mopar Purists, Look Away!

Hot Rod Garage Hacks Up The “Project Fishtail” ‘Cuda For It’s New Powertrain – Mopar Purists, Look Away!

The 1972 Plymouth ‘Cuda that Tony Angelo rescued out of Kentucky is done as I type. We saw it parked at SEMA and other than some really minor tidbits, it’s ready to rock. (We won’t hold a grudge for only having a partial grille. Have you priced ‘Cuda trim pieces lately?) In person, the car is absolutely wicked. The car already had a 1970 ‘Cuda tailpan grafted on, so he took that theme and turned the car into a drift-style AAR clone. That works by our standards, but before SEMA, before the paint or any of that, the Plymouth needed power. You aren’t going to drift with an empty engine bay, and we doubt that whatever small block was originally was under the hood would be up to snuff, even if it was absolutely mint and day-one perfect. So in goes late-model power in the form of a 6.4 Hemi powertrain, a Tremec manual trans, the rear brake lever, and…oh, great. Lucky has the Sawzall. This is gonna get messy…

Whew. For a moment there I was worried they were putting an LS1 in there. A 6.4 Gen III Hemi is a great choice.
