In Car Video: The 680hp Lingenfelter Performance Engineering L-28 at the Optima Invitational

Over the next few weeks you’ll be seeing lots of awesome video from the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational. This is the opening salvo and we were tipped off to it by LPE’s Mike Copeland who gave us the inside dope on the hairy Camaro featured in the clip. Called the “L/28” this Chevy has an LS7 based LPE crate engine that makes 681hp naturally aspirated. The car has side exhaust which pumped out slightly less glorious noise than the zoomie equipped blown alky engines in the monster trucks at SEMA!

The man at the helm of this wicked Camaro is Dave Mikels, who previous to the day of the OUSCI had never driven the car on dry pavement. In fact, the LPE crew stuck this piece together in just three weeks in order to compete at the event. Even with the short build time and even shorter seat time, the car was a contender. Copeland reports that the Camaro was 10 seconds faster around the road course than the next 5th-Gen and ended the day with the ninth fastest lap time of the event. Oh, did we mention that the car still weights 4100lbs?!

Press play below and listen to that LS7 based Lingenfelter engine WAIL around the Spring Mountain road course!

Listening to this thing sitting at a light on the strip was awesome. Hearing it scream by my announcer stand at 100 plus was even better. This car makes big boy steam and is way fun to watch. Now we want to get the chance to drive!
