Vintage Drag Racing Footage From McCracken Dragstrip. Modified Production, Gassers, & More

To say this footage in awesome would be the understatement of the  year. While it has no audio, this is real deal Modified Production, Gasser, and Altered Drag Racing like we dream about and wish we had been around for. There are even some kick ass early Funny Cars. Shot at what was McCracken County Dragstrip, and is now Beacon Dragway, this footage came to the track staff from Doug Carter and is spectacular. The good news is, we met the new owners and management of Beacon Dragway a couple weeks ago at PRI in Indy and they have assured us that there will be a full schedule of drag racing at this NHRA sanctioned historic facility in Paducah, Kentucky.

Our understanding through our conversation with the track, and some hush hush rumors on the street, is that there are going to be several really kick ass events at this track for 2014 and that all you small tire drag racers are going to be thrilled. We don’t know much more than that, but have told the owners that we want to be informed and see if we can make it our for a BangShift.com LIVE event in 2014. We’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, check out the track’s website at BeaconDragway.com, and check out this great historic video below. It will make you want to build a Modified Production Camaro or Mustang right this second.

Big thanks to BangShifter Brian Jones for sending us the tip on this video.

Growing up in Southern Illinois, I recognize a lot of these cars and drivers. Our home Track was Fairfield dragstrip and then I-57 in Benton. Ahhh Crispy Critter out of Evansvillle Indiana.
