Roadtripping Across The Country In A Dodge Daytona To Race Some Clapped-Out Beater? We’re Paying Attention!

Roadtripping Across The Country In A Dodge Daytona To Race Some Clapped-Out Beater? We’re Paying Attention!

Last summer, Woodward Avenue saw the second coming of Roadkill Nights. The year prior was the big drag event at the Pontiac Silverdome where *ahem* primate monkey house of automotive hijinks *cough* and Roadkill had a Hellcat-in-a-musclecar shootout that set the internet afire. This time, they managed to get a section of Woodward Ave. closed off for drag racing on the street. Street racing, it wasn’t, but did it really matter? Nope…cars were burning rubber and making laps on the road that is held in such high regard by gearheads due to it’s connection to kind-of sanctioned, after hours factory “testing” and the Detroit street racing scene. Not a bad place to be on a summer afternoon, if we do say so ourselves. The Roadkill boys had drug in the Dirt Track Challenger, a 1970 model that they had scored out west, kit-bashed together using parts they dug up at the Mopar Nationals in Ohio a couple of weeks prior, and drove to Michigan. Naturally, they needed competition, and that siren’s call was answered by Mike Musto, who dusted off his “Angrier” 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona clone for the challenge. We dig the fact that, faults and all, he had no problem putting the winged wonder on the asphalt instead of loading it up on a truck and shipping it. Cool trip. Reminds me of last year when I drove, by myself, no chase cars, my 1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II (NASCAR version) from Cincinnati Ohio to Bonneville and ran 154mph on the salt flats at the U.S.F.R.A. race. Old school car. 351c, 4speed toploader and 2:75 Detroit locker.

Hugh fan of Mike Musto . Tells it like it is . Great cars , great dialog . Although I like Finnegan I just don’t get why he puts sooo much work and effort into junk . Maybe it’s just to make a point but talent should be used to improve the hobby/sport and to advance knowledge not crap . Working on a project just to destroy it makes no sense to me.
