Best of 2019: Floating On The Water In An Amphibious Volvo Wagon

I want it to be known right now: as I type this, it’s the middle of the night and I can see the waves of every flooded spot in my front yard from the office window. The heavy rains that were forecast for the Kentucky region have started to settle in and won’t be leaving for the next day or two. It’s not like we needed the rain one bit, but hey…now I get to do splash tests with the Cougar the next time I’m actually up to going out. With any luck, I won’t be removing a fish out of the Mercury’s bumper cover.

What I need is something more along the lines of the car that Theon Parseghian put together a couple of years back. Simply based on what we can see, the EVOLVO, as it’s been dubbed, sports a small engine mounted just in front of the rear axle line. Whether it’s driving a propellor or some kind of jet system, I can’t tell for sure. Those of you who spend time in the water, help someone who is severely lacking in boat culture out here. What I can see is that the suspension is adjustable enough to bring the wheels up into the body and that the engine/drive system in the water is just enough to spend some lazy days out messing around…it’s no speed demon, but if you wanted to get out and tool around a bit, the car looks perfectly capable. And it’s able to drive itself right back out of the water, a nice surprise for it’s first trip out into the drink!
