Treat It Like A Rental: That’s $2 Million Worth Of Mercedes Ripping Up The Lawn!

Out of the thirty-five 1997 Mercedes CLK-GTR homologation street cars produced, six and only six were roadsters…you know, because what a GT1 homologation car needs more than anything is it’s roof lopped off. These psychotic Mercedes were FIA-spec race cars put onto the street. They cost damn near $1.6 million new, packed over six hundred horsepower from it’s V-12, and if you had the cajones to plant your foot to the floor, you’d get a very realistic sensation of what a no-kidding race car felt like. Except with leather seats. It is a Mercedes, after all.

While the wildest thing we’ve ever seen one of these machines do involves poor aerodynamic issues and uncommanded and uncontrolled flight at the 1997 24 Hours of LeMans, watching this guy wring out this rare beast on not only a lawn, but on a “forest stage” rally course is a pretty good runner up prize. If you’ve got the means to have one of these machines, don’t just let it sit and rot under pretty lights in a garage somewhere…you bought the car, go drive it like you freaking mean it!

Were we hoping a big rambling bulbous creature wound step out of the trees and take out the front end and with it the driver??? Not us!

I’d want more than a cheap plastic dashboard in a car worth that much!

Wonder if these take off and do loops like the race version did?
Crusty ain’t a big Dumbler Benz fan, of course when the company you’ve spent your working life at is destroyed by another and it’s phony “merger of equals”, it can rub you the wrong way sometimes. 😉
