U.S.S. Good Times: This Lincoln Town Car Is Perfect Proof That Anything Can Be Badass

U.S.S. Good Times: This Lincoln Town Car Is Perfect Proof That Anything Can Be Badass

Without question, the high point of my vehicle ownership has been the 1987 Dodge Diplomat known as “Warhammer”. A 360 powered, four-speed equipped beast of a car that, in it’s short time with me, sprouted a fleet of believers, it was the last car on earth that anybody expected to be fast. We aren’t talking “fast for the 1980s” or “fast for an old cop car”. We’re talking well-beyond-legal, moves with authority, screaming-passenger edition level fast. I loved that thing, even though it looked like the automotive equivalent of the retired cop who has seen too much. I love the oddball builds, the cars nobody would give a second thought. Those are the machines that grab my attention wherever I go. Sure, there’s plenty of nice Camaros, Mustangs, LS-swapped whatever, trucks…but they tend to start blurring together if you go to more than one car show a year. But even if you go to every car show on the schedule, the likelihood that you’ll find a Lincoln Town Car that rocks as hard as this one is going to be a mighty task. I can only think of one other airport special I’ve seen that can lay the power down like this one does.

Where to begin? Well, this thing is effectively the luxury version of the “CobraVic”, down to the center console and shifter-less column. Anybody who can build a two-valve 4.6 Mustang can build the engine in a Town Car, and any Town Car can sound like it is ready to fight. The Tremec swap isn’t uncommon, a lot of Panther platform freaks have been swapping in the third pedal. But how many Lincolns have one? And how many Lincolns have that buttery seating surface that begs you to go hit the Interstate and just lean back and relax? How many are still painted…what is that color, Bronze Frost Metallic? You can bet any gearhead who sees this car and hears this car will remember this car.
