QuarantinePiece Theater: Fifty Years of Sideways – An Hour and a Half of Epic Video In The World Of Rally

It was a few years ago that dinner with our BangShifty pal Bill Caswell resulted in us learning about a film called “50 Years of Sideways. Caswell went nuts telling us about this film and how great it was, how we needed to see it and how it would transport us into the world of old school rally racing like nothing we had ever seen. Turns out, he was 100% right and that’s why you should watch it as today’s QuarantinePiece Theater installement. It’s just that good.

This video documents the history of rally racing and is wall to wall awesome. When the buttoned down English narrator talked about “sideways motoring” there are images of neat little cars in full drifts on ice, dirt, asphalt, and whatever other surface you can dream up. From the screaming two stroke Saabs of yesteryear to the Group B death machines, this video really touches all the bases. Rally racing may not be in the fore of popularity in America but sideways cars with screaming engines certainly are. Drifting? These sons of bitches invented it.

This is an hour and a half of entertainment. Normally you’d have to lock your office door, pop a bag of popcorn and crack the cap on the bottle in your lower right drawer. Today? Watch in your pajama pants as your boss sits and home and watches in their pajama pants as well. Don’t worry, we won’t tell.

Oh, and crank the hell out of the speakers, too.
