(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – Moving on to a collection of cars virtually everyone likes – the muscle cars. While some might argue a Rambler or Falcon aren’t ‘muscle’, I disagree. A falcon sprint wasn’t exactly a dog and made for a decently-quick ride back when cars with big horsepower were typically barges toting some serious heft. We could also argue that the Pontiac Grand AM or Oldsmobile’s 442 of the mid-70s had nothing ‘muscle’ in them, the manufacturers were seemingly trying to do what they could given the constraints and technologies of the time. Likey my favorite car in here is the dark Road Runner sporting Weld wheels, killer stance, and an ear-splitting exhaust note.

The orange Road Runner shown here is the raffle car for Somernites in 2015 so if you are interested in this type of machine – got to an event and buy a ticket or two or twenty. I was also drawn to a orangish-red Gran Torino that was super detailed. It is an excellent example of a typically-overlooked car that can still be cool. We also believe we saw more GTOs this weekend than we’d seen all year long. My favorite year for these seems to be one of the least seen – 1964. Something about the lines and its resembling the Pontiacs from earlier in the decade. Enjoy these. More to come…
