(Photos by Charles Wickam) – Here’s a little inside baseball for you. All the announcers usually fight for the mic when stockers and super stockers are coming up. Why? You know why. These cars are cool as hell, the pull wheelies, and now with the modern factory produced drag race cars, we have an incredible spread of cars than range from the 1950s and 60s right up to the present day. Last weekend at the O’Reily Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals in Baytown, Texas a stout field of classics locked horns and put on a great show for the fans. Wickam was there blasting away and he did a spectacular job of capturing these wheels up racers.

It is tough to pick a favorite between the two categories because they are vastly different while sharing some of the same characteristics. Stock is much more highly regulated with respect to chassis piece and engine modifications and super stock is quicker (for the most part) and the car are precision built weapons. They all still LOOK like cars though and the fact that they hike wheelies and carry them for a while makes it all that much more entertaining. In my experience, more fans stay in the stands for stock and super stock outside of virtually any other sportsman classes of racing. These photos will prove why!
