(Photos by Scott Liggett) – It was cold, dark, and cloudy at 6 AM last Sunday morning when our SoCal reporter Scott Liggett, rolled through the gates at the Fairplex of Pomona in his 1970 Caprice for the April edition of the Pomona Swap meet. That didn’t dampen the spirits or reduce the crowds, just the opposite. The place was already packed to the rafters with vendors, buyers, sellers, and just spectators. Scott went in hopes of finding some good deals on parts he needs for his project ’65 Impala SS, but he was nice enough to haul along his camera and snap some pictures for us.<\/p>\n

The size and scope of the Pomona Swap Meet is something that has to be seen to be believed. It took Scott just over 3 1\/2 hours to walk the rows of vendors. He wasn’t strolling leisurely either. Then he headed over to the four different car corrals to see all the cars. And, it’s like this every one of the ten times the swap meet is put on every years. If you plan to go, wear your most comfy walking shoes. A paper bag in your back pocket for when you start hyperventilating might be helpful too. \u00a0It was 1 pm when Scott’s legs finally had enough and he crawled back to his car.<\/div>\n

Every time we go, we notice there seems to be an unexpected or planned theme to the cars that end up in the corals. Sure, this place is Valhalla for those BangShifters in lust of ’60’s era Impalas, but this month the theme was “granny fresh” rides. There were dozens of low mileage sedans, coupes and convertibles that grandma babied for 50 years parked all over the place. Look for a green ’69 Nova coupe that granny only drove 9043 miles to bingo among many others.<\/div>\n
