One of the toughest things to do when building a car is to combine old school elements and current technology/styling together. This Mustang that’s going together at Tube Chassis Designz seems to be doing a damned good job at it. The motor is a classic FE with stack injection but a closer look reveals that it is an EFI stack injection system using a F.A.S.T. XFI controller. The suspension components from Heidt’s are designed to work with the existing factory sub frame but will have this thing handling like mad with an IRS and much improved geometry up front. The damned near artistically fabricated fuel tank from Rick’s fits perfectly and doesn’t look all weird and ill fitting like others we have seen. The Auto Meter gauges fit the dash perfectly and look both classic and modern at the same time. The modern five speed manual transmission hides below the floor and you’d never know the difference. Three pedals are the way to go whether we’re talking new or old school.

The big FE mill fits nicely into the front of the Mustang with the shock towers cut out. Just trying to envision that engine fitting in there with the towers seemed impossible. As you’ll see in the gallery there are some really cool touches that Jon and John have put on this one. Notably, where to located the vacuum pump for the brakes. The guys cut a little window in the firewall and placed it in the torque box creating an access panel if it ever needed to be serviced. Trick and totally clean.

This car will be shuttling back and forth between Jon’s and the painters as things move along, but we look forward to doing a full work up on it when completed and bringing you more build photos along with way. We have a gallery of about 40 photos to show you, see it by clicking the link below!
