(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – The event that most people look forward to at Gravelrama 2015 has a cool name – the Big Eliminator Hill. It’s a massive pile of un-compacted pea gravel the rigs not only attempt to scale, but also do it quicker than everyone else in their respective classes. Each vehicle runs the hill three times in each class with the first and last runs starting at the bottom and the middle run is started from the middle. Sometimes just getting to and leaving the starting line can be a challenge. Just hammering the throttle when you are given the go signal doesn’t seem to work often. There is some finesse to successfully reaching and clearing the summit. Many of the more low-slung rides will actually get caught at the top. What you really want to avoid is flying over the top because the backside is steep as well. It was our first time shooting photos ON THE HILL and it seemed a bit intimidating at first. You’ll see as the competition rolled on we got a little more bold in our filming position, but still didn’t get too crazy.

This first gallery is the staging lanes and the start of our action photos from the charge up the hill. The rest of our coverage for Gravelrama is all action. Promise.

Enjoy.
