(Photos by Charles Wickam) – A day or two ago we showed you Charles Wickam’s first batch of killer photos from the World of Outlaws event which was held on the dirt track at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas. The World of Outlaws tour literally traverses the country and as we told you the other day, it seldom stops. The trucks are only parked long enough to get the cars qualified and raced and then it is off again. A perpetual motion machine of horsepower, dirt, banked tracks, and speed these drivers, mechanics, and race support people are the hardest core in the racing world. The weird thing is that World of Outlaws series is not bigger in social stature.

Guys like Steve Kinser, Doug Wolfgang, and a handful of others established themselves as the gold standard of this type of racing and many of the great oval and circle track racers of today have come through this series with varying levels of success. There’s no horse crap fake cautions to regroup fields, no gimmick crap to interrupt the event, and no mincing words in the pits. Racing for a living is what the majority of people in this series do and that means that prize money is a paycheck, not a luxury.

A TV series about some World of Outlaws series competitors would be like the best thing ever. Someone do that.

Click on the photos below to expand them and then scroll through to see ’em all –
