(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – Let there be burnt offerings to Vulcan…..the god of tire smoke. Had a LOT of good burnout photos for half the cars and not so much the other half. Many of these cars do not have a traction problem with only a little cleaning of the tire so a big, nasty, massive-plume burnout isn’t needed and is just more wear and tear on the vehicle. It is a show though and we were there to bring that show to you.

First up to the plate is the Toxic Falcon. I do not recall it doing monster burnouts last year, but this thing had the starting line area fogged up. The Tin Man Chevy II never disappoints as the smoke always seems to cling on the Nova’s flanks. Josh Embry has a new mill in his ’64 Malibu and he hazed the tires past the starting line several times. Adam Lowhorn, despite an uncooperative clutch, managed some photogenic heating of the hides. Even Aaron Riley’s Falconstein, last year’s series points champion, got in on the action and ruthlessly abused the tires before nearly every pass.

Enjoy the photos.
