(Photos by David Whealon – DWPhotos.net) – With the possibility that it would be the last meet held at the Ohio Mile in Wilmington, Ohio the ECTA faithful showed up in force to let it all hang out for 5,280 ft at a time last weekend. It was one of the biggest and busiest June meets in the Ohio Mile’s history with more than 130 competitors and 600+ runs made over the course of two racing days. Things got even better when the ECTA learned that they would be having a September meet after concerns that airport officials would be signing a deal with Amazon.com to more robustly use the property in the future.

Notable achievements at the meet were Daniel Oaks running 237mph on a Hayabusa with stock bodywork, Jack Donohue running 101mph in his Ford 8Ncredible tractor, and Alan Flora running 223mph coasting across the finish line in his Chevy Beretta. Great weather greeted the racers in Wilmington and while the winds were not exactly working in their favor, it seemed to us like virtually everyone had a great time.

Thanks to the preparation of the cars and the efficiency of the racers, along with the hard work of the ECTA volunteers the event was a really fun time for everyone involved. It was an awesome race for the same reasons that every land speed meet we have ever been too is great. There’s an amazing array of cars, motorcycles, and vehicles that defy description like steam powered streamliners and 100mph tractors.

It was the kind of weekend that gearheads love at the Ohio Mile. The kind of weekend that showcases the best in mechanical creativity and the things that have made motorsports great over the years. We had a blast and we’ll have another one in September. Be there!
